This album was purchased only on the basis of cover art. Also because it was produced by Devin Townsend.
I put the CD in the player and it was once again a great amazement. "Welcome. Won’t you please step aside? Follow The Hollow '. Then began the beating. Starter song is exactly the kind of like the starting song is supposed to be. A sledge hammer to the forehead and forward.
This album was sort of first contact to me with the Gothenburg metal. And really the only band, which I like from that genre. This album was also a record, which is in addition to Evegrey yields greatly influenced my playing technique on keyboards. That’s not a surprise, as the man behind keys in both bands is the same person, Sven Karlsson.

Soilwork's hallmark is a groovy grip and iconic choruses. Again, it comes from the Swedish original sin, composing pen is very sharp. The style in which Soilwork will mix half clean vocal parts to the raw roasting is an art. Although the music, at least when it appeared was time for a modern, trusted songs with traditional sounds. For example, the Black Star Deceiver organ is a handsome crossover with the 70's and today's. Producer Townsend screams quite recognizable too.
Guitar duo Wichers & Frenning is the new Tipton & Downing. Also, Speed's vocals are successful. Finnish drummer is Ranta, who made excellent cymbal work. Bassist Ola Flink doesn’t have a big role on this album, but on live he’s the most visible part of the band.
The album is the best in its genre. I promise a lot. But it is. Listen to the gym. There it belongs!

As We Speak – Verse rhythm is a genius, anyway, the song scamper great between the riffs and fills.
Soilworker's Song of the Damned - The atmosphere is very melancholic.

Natural Born Chaos – Album title track is the weakest.

Kosketinsoittaja Sven Karlssonin ensimmäinen Soilwork-albumi.
Tämä levy ostettiin pelkästään kansien perusteella. Kansien myös siksi, että niissä luki "Produced by Devin Townsend".
Levyn kun tyrkkäsi soittimeen, oli ihmetys jälleen suuri. "Welcome. Won't you please step aside? Follow the hollow". Sitten alkoi sen päiväinen paukutus. Aloitusbiisi on juuri sellainen, kuin aloitusbiisin kuuluu olla. Lekalla päähän ja eteenpäin.
Tämä albumi oli kohdallani tavallaan ensimmäinen kosketus Göteborg-metalliin. Ja oikeastaan ainut bändi, jota siitä genrestä jaksaa kuunnella. Tämä albumi oli myös levy, joka on Evergreyn tuotoksien ohella vaikuttanut suuresti omaan soittotapaan kosketinhommissa. Se ei sinällään ole yllätys, sillä mies kiippareiden takana on molemmissa bändeissä sama henkilö, Sven Karlsson.

Soilworkin tunnusmerkki on groovaava ote ja rautaiset kertosäkeet. Jälleen tulee ilmi se ruotsalaisten perisynti, hävyttömän terävä sävellyskynä. Tyyli, jolla Soilwork tuo puolikliinit lauluosuudet raa’an paahdon väliin, on taidetta. Sen se todella osaa. Vaikka musiikki ainakin ilmestyessään oli nykyaikaista, luotetaan kappaleissa perinteisiin soundeihin. Esimerkiksi Black Star Deceiverin urut ovat komea crossover 70-luvun ja nykypäivän kanssa. Myös tuottaja Townsend rääkyy väliin varsin tunnistettavasti.
Kitarakaksikko Wichers & Frenning ovat kuin päivitetty versio Downing & Tipton-parista. Myös Speedin vokaalit onnistuvat. Taustatukensa antaa suomalaisperäinen Ranta, joka hallitsee symbaalityöskentelyn erinomaisesti. Basisti Ola Flink sen sijaan ei levyllä ole isossa roolissa, mutta livenä sitäkin näkyvämmin.
Levy on genrensä paras. Paljon luvattu. On se silti. Kuuntele salilla. Sinne se kuuluu!
PARHAAT HETKET
As We Speak – Säkeistön rytmitys on neroutta, muutenkin kappale puikkelehtii hienosti riffien ja fillien viidakossa.
Soilworker's Song of the Damned - Tunnelma on kovin melankolinen. Biisin viimeisiin kertoihin lähdön filli rullaa komeasti.
